About the Book
A man who transcended fear
and lived without limitations
Prabhakara Siddha Yogi is believed to have lived on Earth for over 760 years, transmigrating his soul into different human bodies. An Avadhuta — a wandering mystic of the highest order — he broke the shackles of human bondage and straddled the worlds of absolute reality and surreality with equal felicity.
Written by a journalist whose own life was transformed during the research, this book weaves first-hand accounts from devotees, historical narratives, and personal revelation into an unforgettable portrait of a being who defies everything we think we know about life and death.

Chapter 1
Experiencing a Mystic
Ironically their first meeting was at a local toddy shop; normally not considered a great place for a spiritual experience. The lawyer had been quite addicted to toddy and was spending a huge part of his income on toddy and country liquor, pushing his family into deep distress. Though he wanted to free himself of the addiction, he was unable.
“I was at the country liquor shop near home waiting impatiently for the supplier when I noticed a scruffy old man, with a dour face staring at my face sharply with a blazing gaze. He was sitting across the table, exactly opposite to me. Then, the waiter came and I ordered a quarter bottle of country liquor. Immediately, the old man in an authoritative tone, asked me to order a bottle for him also. I didn't like his dominating behaviour, commanding tone, and lack of manners, and so curtly refused. On second thoughts I got angrier still, and shouted at him to move away. But the man ignored my tantrums and seemed resolute. I couldn't resist for long, and after a while, I yielded.”
“The bearer placed the bottles and glasses on the table and was about to serve when the mendicant signalled him to leave. Then, he took the bottle and filled both the glasses; he served one to me and took the other himself. When I sipped, to my amazement I found that the toddy tasted like lemonade. Surprised, I ordered more and gulped it down again, but realised that it too had turned into lemon juice. I was frustrated and concluded that the old man had worked some charm. Why are you doing this to me? I asked. He didn't comment; just smiled, got up and walked away.”
He continued, “I decided not to let him go like that, and followed him. I asked him who he was. He said his name was Prabhakaran. I had heard about the wonderful feats of a mystic named Prabhakara Siddha Yogi and realised that the vagrant was none other than the holy saint. Immediately, I felt guilty at having shouted at him; fell at his feet and begged pardon. He smiled; pulled me up and blessed me.”
Needless to say, the lawyer became an ardent devotee and remained a teetotaller thereafter.
This is just the beginning…
